Skin under the eye is very thin. When blood passes through the large veins close to the surface of the skin it can produce a bluish tint. The more transparent your skin the darker the circles appear. Also if you are exposed to the sun, even in people with darker skin, exposure to sunlight, especially during the summer months, can cause a higher-than-normal level of skin pigmentation (melanin) under the eyes. The same principle applies to the skin under the eyes. Also lack of a balanced diet, the lack of nutrients in the diet can contribute to the discoloration of the area under the eyes. And also fatigue and lack of sleep eventhough i understand we cannot always sleep a lot, but this is a fact, lack of sleep or excessive tiredness can cause paleness of the skin, which again allows the blood underneath the skin to become more visible and appear darker. The skin can also become paler during pregnancy and menstruation, which again allows the underlying veins under the eyes to become more visible. If you have a tendency to have dark circles under your eyes, as you grow older, they are likely to become more noticeable and permanent. The thinning of skin under the eyes will also make dark circles more pronounced. Puffiness or fullness of the skin under the eyes can be due to a number of causes. If mild, these changes are usually temporary and don't require medical treatment. Causes may include changes in your body's fluid balance such as due to weather changes, travel or hormone fluctuations. If itching or redness accompanies the puffiness, it may be due to an allergy. I use and love Arbonne's NutriMinC® RE9 REpair, Corrective Eye Crème, (i buy it online at: http://arbonnepuertorico.myarbonne.com under shop online) you will enjoy immediate visibly firming and moisturizing benefits. This formula moisturizes the delicate skin around the eyes and reduces the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. the best thing is that they are formulatted with botanical principles and formulatted without mineral oil, animal prooducts or fragrances which all these ingredients are very harmfull for our skin.. Mineral oil is the 2nd worse thing we could do to our skins health for it is like rubbing car oil on our skin and exposing ourselfes to the sun, animal products come from dead animals and these come from rendering plants these plants pick all dead animal and dead animal parts (from meat houses, etc.) and they put it in a huge pot, squash everything and boils it, what ever comes to the top is the oil other companies use to elaborate thier products, gross I know...the lipstick... ewww anyway, that is why i use botanically based products which is way much better because they get absorbed and the nutrients inside the products is what helps our skin look and feel healthy...they are not sold in stores but it is a great way to buy becasue they have this money back guarantee if for some reason there is something you do not like from the products you get your money back guarantee (within 45 days from purchase) so you have nothing to loose, only the dark circles and puffiness ;~).... I know the info is too much but hope this is helpfull!!!

Of course sleep and diet do play a huge role in this, however much of the time it is genetic and there is not a whole lot you can do. I would suggest an eye gel, look for ingredients like cucumber or chamomile; than keep it in the refrigerator, after you apply let it dry and then use a cream concealer. Check the archives for useful tip on applying concealer.

Preperation H works wonders! The same thing that helps shrink hemmoroids works for bags under the eyes... apply it to the bone line under the eye...try not to get it in the eye. After about 10 minutes blot with a tissue to remove shine and grease before putting on a good under eye concealer.

For a quick fix you can use concealer under your eyes, smooth with a sponge wedge and put powder over it.

Otherwise you could buy a good eye cream like Neutrogena's and wear it overnight. The results are quick like 1-2 weeks.
