How would you define "friend"? In my experience, a friend is one who initiates conversation with you and expresses interest in you, someone who thinks positively of you (and lets you know) even when you're not together. Given that working definition, I don't think I have a lot of friends - if any. It always seems like I'm reaching out to others, initiating conversation, showing interest in them and their lives....but no one is doing so for me. How about you? How would you define "friend" and, based on that definition, how many do you have?

I'm not cure where I would draw the line.

maybe something like this:

True Family soulmates: 5
other family: 20
soulmate friends: 4
close aquaintance friends: 50
aquaintances: 300

something like that. I'm slow to trust and will sometimes bounce somebody down a level too.

I have a lot of great associates, but only a handful that I would truly call good friends.

Maybe you put so much of yourself into your friendships that your expectations are just a little too high for anyone to reach. Set your sights a bit lower, & preserve your own heart a little more so that you're not constantly disappointed w/ people.

Hang in there, I'm sure more people love you than you even realize! That's what's usually the case.

I define a friend as someone who will listen to you, laugh with you, have fun with you, and is there when you're in need. This defines a good friend, of which i have a few.

Sometimes i think people mix up friend from acquaintance. If you're wondering who that you know is a friend...ask yourself if you needed someone to talk to seriously and you called them while they were in the middle of something else, would they stop and give your their attention?

My grandma told me once that i would b lucky if i found 1 true friend in my whole lifetime and i agree with her now...I have 1 best friend who is always there for me she defines the perfect friend.. i can trust her with my biggest secrets, if i don't call her back right away she doesn't get mad.. we are always there for each other anytime,we enjoy the same food , cloths, etc... have the same basic morals. i never guessed if she was my true friend she always has been there for me and we have a true friendship. so i guess what im trying to say is you shouldn't have to try so hard.. don't expect to much from a friend..or you will be let down and hopefully you will find a true friend someday.

a true friend is someone who looks out for u, helps when they can, listens and talks too u. they dont always have to initiates things, mabe you have more time on yours hands than they do. i have a few friends i would consider good friends. we dont talk everyday or see each other cause we have work and familys. but when it comes down to it these are the people i can turn to when im in need or just wanna hang out. i guess u have to look at them as family. do they act as if your family would to u? you only need one great friend all others are just there for u to socialize with. good friends are hard to come by beleave me. youll know when you have found one. good luck. he/she will come along and youll thank the lord for them.

For me, friend is the person who always there when you're sad, have trouble. Always push you to be better person. Give advice when you in the wrong way. Listen your story and also want you to be happy. I think I don't have many friends like that.

You have a point with your definition of friends. I would also like to add that, for me, shared honesty, trustworthiness, respect, and care for each other are also great qualities of true friends. I do have friends, but only a very few true ones.
