Do the people of the world not know that a peaceful world would lead to a prosperous world.

It's getting closer everyday.
The international borders have been pretty secure except in Africa for a few decades. We've had the Kuwait thing and before that lived in the Cold War which was an uneasy peace, but not too bad.
With a studied nod to Viet Nam and the Korean War, both border battles and ideology battles the last major event was World War II. That was 60 years ago now.
Globally, the fights of Kosovo and even our current involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan are pretty small potatoes. Not to belittle it's importance but to just look at numbers -- if in the entire time we've been in Iraq has yielded 3000 American deaths, those numbers are tiny compared to WWII, I or even the Civil War. Or any war for that matter.
The deal with N. Korea with their puny little fire cracker has brought some big powers to the table to agree on things. I am so delighted to see this happening!
China is inviting with world into it's country for the Olympics -- that is huge!
The key is and always has been Trade. The success of this world's peace be it by region or world-wide will hinge on the ability to trade goods so that everyone prospers. This is happening better and on a grander scale every day.
Brazil and China are both making a heavy push into alternate energy sources, the Entire World will have to change the way we use energy to save our own planet -- this will be a collective effort that will further bring peace to our planet.

It's not in the interests of the ruling classes for the world to live in peace. Ordinary people generally do their best to live in peace anyway. The politicians and the rest of the so called elite take us to war but expect us to actually do the fighting.
Things may change when we eventually wake up and realise that we all need each other and that if we can't live in peace we will increasingly die in conflict.
I do however believe we are capable of it. We are amazing creatures with the ability to make the world an excellent place. We just need to get through our social adolescence, for want of a better description.

The world will live in peace when the power of love becomes stronger than the love of power or money. But don't hold your breath waiting.

The world will be in peace
when..Religion no longer exists, and people realize that we should not judge, be hypocrites, and the politicians in Washington stop being so underhanded and corrupt, which ofcoure will happen when people vote for someone who is articulate, loyal, honest and a true leader, not just talk talk talk and lie lie lie but actually do the job!

Humankind is genetically flawed. As long as there are just two people on the whole of the face of the Earth there will be conflict. This can only change by a Supernatural (Spiritual) alteration to the character genetic makeup (physiology) of the human genome. Mankind cannot change himself; it is an absolute impossibility.

Yes, show me one person who would say that whatever he is engaged in right now so intensely is not for peace.
The problem is, for that person, that is the only right way to ensure and work for lasting peace.... even perhaps to first get rid of 'problematic looking' people !

The problem is that with all whom do not focus on themselves. Instead of focusing on the world, and how to make it more peacefull, by influencing others to act with peace, One Must choose to focus on them self, on learning more about how oneself can find their Own inner peace and and happiness of there own life. For by focusing on the self, you show Love to yourself, and by doing so, you show love to God.
Do not worry about the world, it will then take care of itself.
If the world did this, then the world would be full of those whom are focusing on themselves . Bringing forth there Love. No fear based actions of a "terrible future".
Countries would not attack , from fear, they would love there Own countries and build upon them.
All it takes is one person to focus on themself, then soon others will too.
Just like training life guards , to work on a beach. They must mainly focus on learning how to swim and save people themselves, instead of trying to teach others to do so, while the student Themself does not know .
You can not teach another to swim, and save there life, when You yourself can not swim, and must save your Own Life.

Right from the beginning there was a war waged for one or the other reason.Only that today they war on each other for all the wrong reasons.
World in a chaotic place.
