I don't think so. Have you considered getting your marriage certificate filed BEFORE the due date? That way you would be legally married, and you could change your name.

Until you are married your legal name is on the birth certificate. The baby can take the fathers last name. My husband and I were not married when we had our son 5 months ago {though engaged for 3 years} and my son has his last name. After you marry if it is that important to you, you can file with the birth registry in your state to have your name chanced on the paperwork after you present them with an official name change. Just because you marry doesn't mean your last name changes. You have to get it changed on your social security number too

Yes. You don't change your name by getting married, you change it by using your husband's family name. Most women have all their documents changed (banking, driver's liscence, etc) before they get married. You can just start the process now.

That said, you and your partner get to choose your baby's last name. It has nothing to do with whether you are married or not.

If you're worried about the child finding out you weren't married, it really isn't worth being dishonest about. If your ceremony is planned, just consider it a party, religious event and have a short civil ceremony immediately. Then, you are legally married in ten minutes, your partner has legal rights to the child should anything happen to you and, you have rights to you partner's estate to help you raise the child should anything happen to him.

Not romantic, but important to think about when children are involved.

Yep! For your baby's that is.... I'm not sure about yours though...I wasn't married at the time I delivered, and at first, they had "Baby Boy - then my last name" But I wanted it to be my husbands, you will sign papers and all that, and tell them in the nursery that you want it changed, and they will. One thing- it did mess up on my insurance card- so I had to call to let them know his name isn't 'Baby Boy then my last name!" lol So just let them know, and sign the birth certificate and papers the way you want it to be, and it will be fine.

It depends on where you live- You may have to go ahead and get the marriage license before hand. If in the us you can go to your local court house and get it, in texas it is $25.00 to do this. You will be legally married then, and you can still have your ceremony after the baby is born.

Usually the birth mother's name on birth certificate is her
maiden name ( name before marriage).
You can use your husband- to -be's last name for the
child's last name.

You can go ahead and have you last name changed. Go to the social security office and ask for a name changed based on common law marriage. they will cange it. Or go ahead and get your marriage licence and have it changed.

You'd have to talk with City Hall or a place like that about it. I'm not sure if you can do that. Good luck and God bless.
