Listen, there are thousands of singers out there who sound a lot like that rimes chick but they ain't gonna make it because they don't have what it takes for whatever reason. Breaking into the music business, even if you have a completely original sound and material that really rocks, is like waiting for lightning to strike the same tree on the same day over and over again. I say follow your dreams but also make sure you have a vocation lined up because more than likely you'll end up like I did...waking up 20 years later and wondering why I didn't get an education...yeah, I'm bad assed with a guitar...probably the baddest boy you'll ever see play one...but that don't mean squat if you don't get the breaks!

Start by going to a karaoke night and perform in front of strangers. They will let you know if you have any talent by their response. Friends can be biased.
Have you ever watched the "American Idol" audition shows? Nearly every single one of those people are convinced they have talent...and, as we can see and hear, most of them are clearly mistaken (some are even delusional). If you truly believe you have what it takes, then by all means, follow your dream, but, have a thick skin and be prepared for a lot of critics and rejection. Making it in the entertainment business is not JUST about talent - it's also about being able to understand the business and pay your dues.
I wish you luck and hope you are one of the lucky ones, sweetie!

If you truly want this then you can’t let others decide for you. If you are not sure of your talent then look for places near you that have amateur time and try going on stage before a crowd of strangers. Sometimes your friends are not the best judge because they are either too critical or not critical enough. You have to decide if you are ready to make the sacrifices that may come while seeking this kind of life.

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!
But, you should also take note that when following your dreams means working on it too.
There are people who say that you are good but you'd wouldnt really really know.
I think the first part of it is joining a choir a professional group. You should know the comments from the professionals. Not only will they say if you're good or not.. but they will say what improvement you need!
Then eventually, when you have a solid foundation on singing skills, you can have your own music already! By that time, you are confident about your skills. You just have to focus on marketing yourself!
You gotta work on it!

I'm sure you've heard this saying 'Never give up' and 'Follow your dreams' well even though you've heard them a million times I will say them yet again.Don't let other people discourage you.Theres always one place where you start up your career and if you let yourself believe you are not good enough, then you're letting your own self down.At least try an audtion or something.

It's a hard choice to make. There are so many people out there who can sing and dance that your competition is steep. If you go for it and things don't go your way you will be poor. Being poor is very hard. I don't think you should give up but don't make it your only thing so you can live well while you are waiting to realize your dream.

get a good "REAL" job and keep your dreams active but have something to fall back on ...
the music business is VERY competative and alot of people (even those who succeed) mess up their lives because of it...
dont "idolize" anyone... this is just wrong.. they are simply other people doing a "job" and are no more important than you or I
