Communication is only as powerful as the matter it is communicating, so I would say "no".
The most powerful thing has to be energy, followed closely by instinct, understanding and intelligence.
Another close runner-up might be "hate" which is responsible for much in this world, either through jealousy, bias or aggression.
My last powerful thing is "greed", an evil force indeed.

Communication has become so technical that it has lost its elegance. Between cell phones, PC's, fax machines and everything else, I believe communication has been abused. Sure its made everything easier, but has world become a better place because of it? Businesswise perhaps, but because of the loss of personal interaction, I think cultures have been disconnected from themselves more then any other time in history. Im sorry to say it, but I feel our technology involving communication will eventually lead to our own self-destruction.

Kind of a silly question - in order to communicate, you must exist in the first place. In order to exist, certain conditions must be in place...in our little cosmos, I would suggest the sun is the most important "thing" as without it there would be no life and therefore no communication.
