passive..it happened to them.. they did not do anything

Passive.

If someone (or something) is preforming the action, and the subject is not doing anything then the sentence uses a passive verb.

In your sentence the subject (Two members of our team), did nothing, but were promoted by someone else who was doing the action (who remains unmentioned).

a passive verb is one in which the principle noun is acted upon as opposed to acting out
