I think that a smile can be result of simple things like love or being loved. Its best of all when you smile because someone else smiled at you first

Alot of things can make you smile. Sometimes I smile just because someone is looking at me. You can just smile because you are overwelmed with joy or happiness. Some people smile when they are on the spot. It all depends on how people feel.

When we were primates it was customary to "show our teeth" for many reasons....it was a sign saying "im angry" or "im happy" or "im going to eat you"..... It's a natural movement to show acceptance or gratitude and now has fallen into many categories....we smile from eating something yummy, etc. Ultimately smiling is there to tell someone else something, just like the old days of being an ape. : )
