We have some lovely ponds and the geese love to land and swim in them but when they are out of the ponds they drop their waste on the lawn where the kids play. Big green goose droppings and plenty of them. How can we keep the geese under control? Any ideas? We don't want to kill them just get them under control.

Geese are stubborn, so there's no quick-fix to rid them. Therefore, I recommend "Goose Chase" it cost $95 from Bird-X and geese hates this stuff!

They kept the geese off the athletic fields at my college by placing cut-outs of dogs all over the fields. It's similar to the concept of placing silhouettes of birds of prey on windows so smaller birds won't fly into them. The cut-outs were about the size of a lab or a German shepherd, were painted black, and were shaped like they were prancing or playing. They just had spokes that held them in the ground. It's a fairly inexpensive solution - and I never saw a goose on the field. The only problem with the ones at school was they were often stolen by drunk college kids.

Get a dog and allow it to chase them. My office had a nice pond and also a pair of swans. The swans wings were clipped so they couldnt get away but they were very territorial too. Geese would land and the swans would chase them off. Of course this wont be good if your kids play in their territory but the geese will be gone and the swans were very pretty on the lake.

if you live near a place with a lake and goose problem (like a college) they may have a "geese dog". One that is trained to chase the geese. See if they want to "train" the dog at your place some, or if they charge a fee for him to come over from time to time. Let your dog chase the geese. They will move off in time. They don't like being harassed much. Other than killing or trapping this is about your only option that I know of.

We captured the ones that kept landing in our pond and took them to a lake that was populated with other ducks and geese......hoping they would like it there better. They did.
