Kids this age are usually fine with ANY answer, so you don't have to really get detailed, but it's in your better interest to just tell them the truth. If you say "babies come from mommy" then they're gonna ask your 90 year old grandma when she's having a baby. Or, when his or her OWN mommy is gonna make a baby. If you explain to them that "when a mommy and daddy love each other very much they make a baby"...well, then they're gonna think that only a married man and woman can make a baby, and that's lying to them too. I would explain it in somewhat scientific terms, (you'd be amazed at how much children actually understand that we don't give them credit for). Just say that "a baby can only come from a woman, but she can't be too old. A woman has eggs inside of her and a man has something called sperm that has to go inside the woman and help make the eggs hatch. That's when the woman's tummy gets big, and when the baby is is big enough, it comes out of the woman."

I think it's very important not to lie to the children but to only give them as much information as they're able to understand according to their age. So I would start off by asking them how THEY think babies are made/born and then work on from that. You'll find that most children already know some things and they just want clarifying some ideas they already have on the matter, not a whole, full explanation.

The scientific way, I will draw them a cartoonish picture of a man & woman standing & squiggly lines & spirals showing the reproductive organs. I tell them they make entirely of tiny creatures call X & Y.
I show 1 tiny X creature coming out of the man & a Y creature inside woman's tummy. They join together & become a baby inside. Remember draw them in child-like way & don't be awkward about it. Young kid are innocent of the taboo of sex.

It depends on what age.
If the kid is like too young like a tod, tell him that God gave him to you as a gift from heaven.
On how... tell him it is too complicated to tell him how God did that. Or you can say that God gave him/her to you in a hospital and if the kid still asks, divert.
If the kid is like 18 or ten years of age, you amy slowly introduce her about sex education but lo a lighter level.
Tell him/her using scientific words or real names (not too vulgar) and if the kid asks more complicated questions, tell your kid he/she will eventually learn that at school. For now... that's all you can say...

This is what my 3 yr old grandchild told me....

Me grewed in my mommys tummy. She went to the hospital and pushed me out. She was real tired.

I asked her, wonder how you got in mommy's tummy.

She said, Daddy put me in there tee-ninny......cause he loved mommy.

What could you say to that?? I just smiled at her and said, Thats right.
