I'm currently almost 2 months into my study abroad in Japan for 1 year. when I bought the tickets to come here, it was actually cheaper to buy 2 roundtrip tickets, each for half a year, (sep - feb and apr - july) rather than one long round trip ticket, god knows why, but thats how it is. so anyway, I have the option of going home in february if i want. Honestly though, I kind of just would rather stay in Japan, especially if I go to Oosaka or something, I don't think it will even be that cold in comparison to the Northern NJ/ NYC winters that I'm used to. You see, I'm going to stay with some friends in Oosaka in March no matter what, but I'm trying to decide if I should go home to america for 3 weeks then to oosaka for the remaining month, or if i should just say **** america and stay here. My jet lag was horrible last time, as well as moving my luggage by myself, so I'm wondering if it's worth it for just a few weeks, especially since all my american friends are away at college. so...

ok well I'm not going for christmas I'll be going in February if I go at all, and as for the other person I said already that I ALREADY BOUGHT THE TICKETS so I won't save airfare, man I love how people actually read the question I wrote instead of putting whatever they want, don't you love that. I'm sorry to hear abuot your father though, that's the sort of thing I'm worried about. I know its not exactly the same but 2 weeks after coming here my mom told me that our cat of 14 years died. I felt pretty horrible. So that's the only thing leaning me toward going back.

Ha, it's not my first time in Japan, thanks. And actually my problem is that I came here to learn Japanese, and stupid me I came to Tokyo, where it's practically impossible to find someone who doesn't speak English. 2 years ago however when I went to Osaka, I learned about 2 years worth of studying in 6 weeks because I lived with a host family who didn't speak english. I'm going to stay with them again in the winter, but I think I'd get a lot more out of it if I stay with them for 2 months, now that I have a pretty good foundation upon which to start learning more japanese. I got most of the grammar down, so if I use in everyday talking to these peopel for 2 months, I'll expand my vocab tremendously and I'll get really really good, whereas if I go home, and stay with them for only 3 weeks......maybe not so good. Plus all my friends from home and my sister are away at college and my parents work, and we don't even have pets anymore, so now do you see my dilemma? usa = a waste, no?

♡I honestly think YOU should decide for yourself...BUT!
Since you asked for opinions, I think you should go home and see your family since you already have the tickets.
~WHY waste them? (^_-)-☆
You're going to Osaka with friends when you come back any way. Go home, enjoy your family, and bring back some souvenirs from the US for friends here in Japan when you come back. They'll be glad!(*^o^*)
~As for your luggage, send it ahead to the airport by 'takyubin' delivery service. It will be there for you when you get to the airport. When you return, do the same thing, send your luggage home by takyubin from the airport. It arrives the next day in most cases.
~Jet lag is usually the worst the first time...at least it was for me.
I'm an American living in Japan for 9 years now and although I LOVE Japan - I NEVER miss an opportunity to go home to the states and see my family. Never! You never know when it'll be the last time you do see them.
~☆Just my opinion here, whatever you decide, good luck and enjoy your time here in Japan.♡

☆EDIT☆Well, I say you've already made up your mind!(^_-)-☆ If the best thing for you to do is stay in Japan and go to Osaka to improve your Japanese, then do it. It's a great opportunity for you. You can always go home in July and perhaps see friends and family during the Summer vacation. Good luck!

It is best 4 u 2 decide urself. I thought u were in Japan 4 many yrs, so I thought u should go back & c ur parents. It is just 1 yr, and u left home only 2 mths. Tt's short time, if I've a chance like u I won't go home if my oversea studies is just a yr. I would like 2 save my airfare.

GOD bless

Take advantage of every moment you have during study abroad and remain in Japan. The experience will pass by all too quickly. Extra weeks in Japan mean more experience, more cultural knowledge, new people to meet, new sights to see, and better language acquisition.

Try a few Winter physical games, ice skating, sledding, snowboarding, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, construct a snowman, have a snowball combat. Inside, you'll cross bowling, play billiards. Take up a bobby.

We may have many friends, but there is only one mother and one father that we will have in this world.
I just went to the States last year to take the exam in San Francisco & I didnt know it was the last time I will see my father. I went home immediately when I learned he got sick, I was able to see him in the hospital but we hadnt chance to talk again because he is already stuporous ( moves only when pain is inflicted on him vs comatose, no respond is noted whatever painful stimulus you inflict). He died last June.
I was able to talk to him 2 days before he was hospitalized in the phone. I told him I love him, he answered back that he love me too. He asked me to go home! I didnt realized that it will be our last conversation together.
Quality time with them will be the best thing you can give this Christmas season!
