a bunch of people moving to one place made it suddenly less desirable?

Think about the worsening traffic, more development and deforestation, raising of taxes, gentrifying areas that "natives" can no longer afford to live in, changing a culture of a given enclave from say bohumian to yupppie, etc ....

Yes.

I always hate it when one of my favorite low key beach vacation places has been written up in a travel mag or in the newspapers. It always ends up being a no go for me anymore.'

don't you know it!!!

you talkin about my town. they went on a publicity jag some years ago, still on it unfortunately. destroyed what was once a great little town. bohemian to yuckki? exactly. used to be lots of artists here. musicians, writers, glass, clay, you name it. peeps came and said "my how quaint..," bought the building the people lived and worked in tripled the rent, closed down old established businesses that didn't fit the new scheme of things, etc. etc. etc. now this town looks like any of a thousand other towns. the rents are abnormaly high, there is no work (yukkis drive their beemers 2 hours to the big city, two hours of open freeway preferable to the 2 hours of traffic jams they're used to). people are discouraged from standing around talking to their friends downtown, good people have moved away in droves, and those still here face sky-rocketing rates of depression and anxiety.

don't get me started.
