Depending on how many air filter replacements your mondeo motor might be more worn than you think. I bring the piston up on #1 Cly and with the valve and timing covers off look at the camshafts are the lobes facing away from the four #1 Cly valves? OK then mark everything belt to cam sprocket or chain to cam sprockets look at the crankshaft key way should be at 12 o'clock now mark the cams position in the heads. Touch up paint works. Now mark all the camshaft caps I-1 Thur how many there are and how they line up put arrow to one side Intake side caps and do E1 Thur X exhaust side you will have to replace these exactly as they came off . Now mark 8 exhaust cam followers and 8 intake cam followers. And valve grinding changes valve clearances and machine shop should have cams followers and head to work on. Some Cly heads have head bolts that are under the cams. Older engines wit a lot of wear should be replaced either with a good motor out of a wrecked car or re manufactured motor. Just doing a head job will make the piston rings push oil past.

Buy a book.
Not only are you going to need the timing marks, but the torque specs, torque sequence, for the head bolts, valve cover, and additional general hints for doing the job right.
Books only cost about $20US but they pay for themselves the first time you use it.

only marks for the timing, you need to mark all the points with a yellow oil marker to put it all back in the same spot. Or get a Chilton's book for that vehicle.
