It's called a shovel pass.
Walter "Bug" Bujkowski developed the shovel pass in a 1927 game against the Pottsville Maroons when he flipped the ball to the wingback, Johnny 'Horse' Hampton. The ball hit Horse right in his hands and he dropped it and Bug started yelling 'shovel pass, shovel pass' and persuaded the referree it wasn't a lateral or a hand-off."

A shuttle pass is a type of bus ticket.
