I heard that they were thinking of doing this in Amsterdam a few years back ... not sure if anything came of it, will be interesting to know if they will do it because i am sure that the amount of tourism lost by doing this would have quite an impact on the local economy !

In some countries, the law states that it is illegal for their citizens to use drugs, including smoke pot (at home or abroad).
So, even if you smoke in Amsterdam, you can still get in trouble when going home.
As for now, it is still possible for foreigners to smoke pot in Amsterdam. Not that we're happy with that, cause our capital city is swarmed with stoned tourists.
Instead of spending your smokey holiday in Amsterdam, you guys should campaign for tolerated pot in your home countries!

It is not a Dutch new law. Posessing pot is forbidden, but not punished only in a small amount for your own use. There are discussions about altering that, but that is not very serious.
If the European Union decides that all offenders of any laws must be punished, than the Dutch administration has to alter the way the police acts. Than they can not say that it is forbidden, but will not be punished. (A very Dutch way called 'gedogen', by the way, it works: in France and the UK, there are more addicted than in the Netherlands)

We have been talking about this in the Netherlands but it will probably not happen, since the law forbids us to make a difference between our own citizens and foreigners.
So the situation will probably remain as it is...

I've researched it and found nothing. I guess the laws in Holland
are made the same way it is in the U.S. You never know until the legistation is immediately effective. I probably won't go if they enact a new law that bans tourists from partaking in the local culture!

Soon, but not soon enough.
A lot of foreigners make a mess in Amsterdam. They think this country is a ZOO. Well, up yours.
