Eliminating poverty is not possible. If I want to be a lazy bum you or the government cannot stop me. Inequity is not a flaw it is essential to advancement and striving for excellence. If all actions result in the same outcome then there is no incentive for taking the correct, most efficient or most production course of action. You may as well sit on your butt.
I believe again my perspective is from the outside looking in. That India is teetering on the edge of moving toward a sustained pattern of economic growth that will be unstopable. Very very close. If will make the whole world a better place.

As India grows, it requires foreign investment to continue.
This will be conditional for many companies who will not tolerate bad practices or exploitation.
More tourists and foreign workers will demand a certain level of service and this can lead to better services for all.
If India keep their red tape, caste system and other developing world issues - they cannot expect growth to continue growing at such a rate which would be bad for the country as a whole.

When you find out, let us know over here in the U.S. We have poverty, corruption, and inequality, too. Our government is just more smooth about it so that we don't focus too much on what they are doing. Yes, India has more extreme poverty than U.S., but we still have inequality here.
