I'd recommend using a drain cleaner. You might have some vomit stuck in the U bend of the pipes!! After the drain cleaner, leave the tap running for a good 15-20 minutes. Then pour some bleach down there and let it sit undisturbed for overnight. In the morning, run the tap again for 15-20 minutes. If that doesn't cure it, I don't know what will. Have your friend throw up in the toilet next time, eh? Flushing is so much easier!!

I had the same problem with my kitchen sink and my aunt suggested using vinegar. I poured in about 3/4 cup of vinegar in the drain and let it sit until I used the sink again that night to wash dishes. By the next day, the smell was gone!

If the drain pipes are PVC, your problem might lie there. Sounds like he let the vomit sit there for a while and the pvc might have absorbed the smell. I would try a drain cleaner that contained either sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid. Many water treatment facilities use these chemicals to clean their drains and neutralize the smell.

there shouldn't be any more smell in the sink after all of that.. fill up the sink with water and try to smell under the sink.. is it leaking? do you smell the odor? you should be able to isolate the smell, whether it's coming from the floor or under the sink etc.. if you don't smell anything and you have a leak under your sink it means the water trap isn't holding water and your smelling odor from your pipes.. not as likely, but in which case fix the trap.

The best way is to take off the elbo pipe under the sink and clean out the sludge

When the ex 'woofed' into the bathroom sink, I used Drano.
The foaming one, it 'scoured' the pipes and got rid of the 'something dead in the drain' smell.

Good luck

Even though you don't have a clog, have you tried Drano? It sounds like the smell is trapped in the guck that forms on the sides of the pipes.

Good luck!!

If you have a disposal.....throw a few lemons or limes into the drain and PUREE!!!! The citric acid does the trick.

Believe it or not, dill pickle juice is strongly reccommended for drain odors. Must be the acid in it.
