I mean, whoever is in office will look horrible when we pull out and leave the country to be overrun by extremists who are even MORE pissed off at us now than ever. So those Reps saying that Dems will "cut and run" are obviously ingorant themselves. Politics is politics is politics. We will be in Iraq for the rest of time, forever involved in that regions warring peoples. If you don't think these high-powered politicians aren't looking out for how good they look to the people, then you are as gullible as they come. And to think ANY politician would stand in front of America and NOT lie about even the most important and personal aspects of ANY situation is absolutely naive. Vote for whoever you want to, but we are not leaving that country. There is too much politically at stake.

I absolutely believe we are in a situation that will not correct itself or be corrected. We are stuck here forever. You cannot defeat a people that are fighting for their religious and political beliefs that are set in for thousands of years before America was even born. I mean, just imagine if it was the U.S. that was being invaded. the terrorism that we would employ would be unspeakable and we would NEVER be defeated. To think these peoples resolve for their most precious beliefs is less than ours is arrogant.

I agree that we will not look good no matter what the outcome in Iraq is. I guess we can chalk another one up to the idiot cowboy that is in office now. He got this mess started. The general feeling about Iraq is that we helped them set up a democracy, now it is up to them to sustain it. If their people are afraid of getting killed by the militias and do not want to fight, then why should America send over its forces to take the bullets for them?

So are you saying there is absolutely no solution and we shouldn't even try to get out of this? Yeah, that sounds like a sound plan. If the violence is indeed unstoppable as you claim, then we really have no impact being there or not, do we?

Edit: I don't think that you can erase an entire ideology and replace it by force with another. (Obviously.) And that is the very reason I don't understand why you're saying we should just resolve to the 'fact' that we will be there forever. If we can't stop it, at some point we'll be left with no choice but to leave. We will always have a vested interested in the Middle East, but I really don't believe this war can be continued indefinitely. People won't allow it.

Edit: El Gringo -Sorry if I don't buy into fear tactics. The bottom line is that we're imposing an ideology on a nation that doesn't want it. THAT is why the violence has only increased. Is that keeping you safe?

Their beliefs do not support a peaceful world so they should be stopped at all cost for the sake of the rest of the world.

They have been waging this war since the beginning of islam there has only been a lull in the war. Now since the '70s they've rearmed and reorganized and are attacking again. They are a patient people I'll give them that but they will not win against a free society as long as the free societies match their patience.

I'll agree with your first question though. Even the democrats wont leave Iraq john kerry said so himself, but they will forfeit given the chance to save face. That will mean more attacks on U.S. soil because if we don't fight them there we'll have to fight them here.... I'd rather fight them there wouldn't you?

I agree with you.

I don't like living in a country of frightened sheep, but these are the people to whom the politicians address their soundbites.

I feel so much safer each time I see President Bush pounding his chest with his hard-nosed war talk on television. He is such a tough guy. Oops pardon me-- my sarcasm switch must have flipped.

Edit: To Holly--actually we are accomplishing a great deal by staying. How would you like it if a swarm of heavily-armed foreigners unable to speak your language occupied your town?
