My Mom kept many old movie magazines in a cool, dry place but they were not boxed. Thought they show no sign of any deterioration they have that smell that makes you sneeze. I have finally found a plastic sleeve that will hold each individually. Will the sealed bag kill off that smell eventually? What else could I do they are in very good condition.

To make a book or magazine smell better take a clean dry box add the items with a solid neutral air freshner.
Do not let the freshner touch any of the books/magazines.
Lightly seal box and wait a day or two then keep checking until they smell fresh. Then air out before putting them on the shelf.
This also will work with an new open box of baking soda or kitty litter.

any chemical you use will make the pages tear...you may have to air them out outside in the sun....store them in protective sleeves..you can get the good ones from a professional photo store...look for the archival type.

If it has carpet, clean it. Clean drapes. Fabric things hold smell. Invest in some air fresheners.
