No, you don't have to. The father of my son was not around so I gave my son my last name and didn't put his father on the birth certificate. I figured if he wasn't around before and during the birth, he had to earn the rights to his son and not just get them free. You can always choose at a later date to have them take a paternity test and put him on the birth certificate, if you want child support or visitation. Also, the baby will still get a social security number.

In most states, you do not have to put the father's name on the baby's birth certificate. The provision is that the baby then takes the mother's last name. As to a Social Security number, I think that it will be issued. Your problems come when you apply for assistance, from a state agency. They will ask for the father's name. Usually, if the father is in attendance at the birth, he will be asked to sign a statement that he is the father. The state has an interest in determining who the father is, so that they may summons him into court and he will be required to pay support for the child.

I know in the States you don't have to. As a matter of fact most Hospitals wont let you put a Fathers name on the Birth Certificate unless you have a paternity test to prove that the man is actually the father, unless of coarse you're married =) Hope this helps =)

You can still apply for social security..but forget about asking for child support..
By the way when the baby is older and sees their birth certificate with no fathers name they WILL ask questions..this is a very selfish decision to make..even if the father is not in the picture the child was conceived by BOTH not just you alone..
Think twice before you don't list the fathers name.

When I had my son 10 years ago I didn't put his name on the certificate. He told me to terminate the pregnancy and said he didn't want anything to do with him. After I had my son I felt it was only right to give the father one last chance. After he held his son for the first time it was something you couldn't believe. So after a few months we added his name to the certificate. And everything worked out nice. I wish you all the best and hope that the future will be better. But a simple answer is no you don't have to put his name on the certificate.

If you are married, even if you don't include the father, legally is his, if you are single you don't have to include the father's name, if you don't want to, and your baby will still get a social security number. Now....are you sure ?? think it twice before doing it, because if later on you change your mind...it will cost you a lot of money just to include his name, and change your child's name, etc, etc. Think twice before doing something like that, is your childs future on your hands, take good care of it. As simple as it looks, it involves a lot of things that will mark you childs future

You don't have to put the father's name on the birth certificate. However, please take note: it might seem like a way to get back at the child's father by not listing him, but your child will feel totally different. There will be feelings of self doubt. Not to mention if you were to file for child support. My sister did not list the father on her sons on their birth certificates. Now as she is trying to take him to court for child support, she has to take extra steps to prove he is the father (such as DNA testing). It's a costly and emotionally draining experience. It has been much easier for the courts to accept him saying "I'm not their father-prove it if I am" than for the kids to say in court "That's my daddy". Just the added pressure on those kids puts more undue turmoil in their lives. Please look at life down the road and what is best for that baby.

you can say you dont know who the father is.alot of single women have children and dont put the fathers name on the birth certificate.wether its cause they dont know who it is,dont want the father in the childs life or because they did artificial insemination.but just so u know his name not being on the birth certificate doesnt make him any less of a father.he can get a paternity test and have full legal rights

no you do not have to put the fathers name on the birth certificate. yes you can still apply for a social security card. the government demands you have a ss# that is how they keep track of you no matter whose last name you have.
you can still get child support to. it does not matter what the child name is dna is all that matters
