Well, there's no one single answer!

I think that to a large degree you learn by experience. As you go through life and make decisions of one kind and another, big and small, you learn what the results of those decisions are and use that knowledge to help shape your future decisions.

I also think it's very helpful if you actually pause and give some reflection to the results each time you make an important decision and consider if the outcome was what you wanted or not. And especially if it was not the desired outcome, try to think about how you made the decision at the time. Were you too emotional? Did you want something too badly to really think out the long term consequences? Try to better understand how you want about making the decision in the first place.

Talk to others! Especially those that you trust. And if possible, talk to others and get opinions before you make a decision. Then you'll have more confidence when you do make the decision.

And finally, always try to keep your mind in a learning mode. Try to make the things that you do this year, decisions and otherwise, a little smarter and a little better than you did last year. And keep doing that for the rest of your life.

A lot of times there are many paths to take that can lead to accomplishing a given task.

The decisions you make requires your "confidence" in completing the task. You must believe in yourself. Ask yourself; Will this solution accomplish my goal? Is it the best solution I can come up with? If yes.....then just do it with confidence.

Someone else may have a different approach. That does not mean it's any better.

with experience......humans are a learning organic machine.....with the daddy of all organic computers installed the brain ! Give you an example.....a young child plays with matches.....burns his finger.....he learns at that early age NOT to make that choice of touching the pretty flickering light.....and it goes from there. The more choices we make as we get older the more confident we get in our ability to make sound decisions.....of course it can go the other way as well....with poor decisions come harsh outcomes. Go to this site for more on the ability to make decisions.

Well, uh, gosh, I'm not sure. Is it OK for me to answer this question? I'm afraid I won't give you the best answer, and then I'll be so embarrassed. Oh, gosh, I wonder if I should answer this question. I just hate having to make these decisions all the time.

Mainly it is about learning to judge - and weigh up the issues. As there is more than one angle that needs to be considered, you could try by writing down the plus and minus and then seeing which is the most pertinent point. Then handle that one.
Good luck
