I've lost two jobs shortly after it was discovered that I didn't subscribe to any of the currently popular ultimate truths and I found that the best way to break up with a woman whose time had come, was to tell her I was an Atheist. The most blatant form of shunning comes from women though. When a woman gets into a relationship, she immediately scopes out her man's male friends as suitable matches for her female friends. Once she determines that a male doesn't like children or is not eager to march down the isle, she pressures her mate to dump his friend. This seems to be a cross cultural phenomenon that is universal. Women seem to be hard wired to shun heterosexual males who can't be harnessed to provide a breeding platform for them, or their friends.

That's sorta hard with discrimination lawsuits etc.. being so prevalent today. I would say you could do a religious group such as the Amish, Quakers, maybe Jewish, or someone with a medical disease like aids. People most of them are more accepting. You could also do the same sex marriage route or something with racism.
