Not at all... I am not arrogant nor vulgar and I call people idiots who really are idiots...only speaking the truth !

The whole thing is dependent on the circumstance. Sometimes it would seem there is no other explanation for their remarks and or behavior.
If it is just a matter of dissenting opinions, it would be better to say "I think what you are saying is idiotic!"

It really depends on the situation and person being called a idiot
If they are really mentally challenged then yes that is wrong. But most usually no I would say not.

Not if they are, in fact, an idiot. I have no problem calling George Bush and anyone who supports him an idiot because it is so obvious he and they are in fact idiots.

if they are a real like dumb dumb derr huh person then no.
But if you call a person an idiot for a simple mistake for say dropping a utensil while cooking then yes!
