Have you considered cleaning your hard disk? This is known to speed up your computer.

First remove any files you're no longer interested in; especially large files (such as movies, hi res pictures and music files such as MP3's) will help a lot if you remove 'em.

Remove Symantec Antivirus if you're using it: it is known to make any computer horribly slow (see what HAYDER wrote, below!). Try the (FREE!!) AVG virus scanner instead. See the source list below for a URL.

Next, run a program such as CCleaner --again, see the source list below for a URL. It removes unnecessary files from your hard disk, and cleans up your registry.

And finally, defragment your hard disk. This is done using a program that comes with Windows. You can find it under Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Disk Defragmenter.

If that doesn't work, buy a new lap top. :-)

If you use an intivirus, stay away from Norton AV because it makes PCs slower. Try to check the load on the CPU by press Ctrl+Alt+Del and see the task manager, look at the bottom of the window you will see a % percentage, it tells you how much it takes from the CPU. You can see which program does this by click on Processes button.

you probably have spyware building up on your computer. here's two programs that do basically the same thing, and both are free...

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-1

The second one has better ratings but I think both work the same. After you run these programs and restart, you should notice a little difference.

PLUS, you can always uninstall programs that you dont need. In control panel click add/remove programs and go through the list and get rid of programs you dont use anymore.

Also, unlike some people will say, you do not need to buy a new laptop. you just need to clean it. worst case scenario is that you might have to format your hard drive and re-install windows.

Install cookie monster and get rid of any unwanted cookies.

Then install an anti-spyware such as spybot search and destroy or AdAware SE.

Then do a disk cleanup and de frag.

I don't recommend you use Registry Mechanic, it offers to delete duplicate files but some of these are essential system files. Try Ccleaner, its much safer. Use the Cleaner and the Issues tools and remember to back up the registry when prompted.
Its not just that your computer needs speeding up, you also seem to be having some problems with it. I'd also suggest a full security scan, but thats not going to solve registry problems.
You may need to have a repair installation; if you're not sure how then its best to pay someone.

Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Then beef up your security. Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it.

You need to install one firewall.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Both these firewalls are free for personal use and stop unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic.

Instal both these web browsers, turn off javascript on one and use that browser for vising unknown websites. They don't support Active X so thats one less way for problems to get on your pc.

You need to install one anti virus;

You need all three anti spyware programs;

Remember to update and run all of you anti malware programs at least once a week.

Check your cookie file and empty it, update your anti-virus and firewall(s), Install and run a spyware detector, and add more memory, that's all I can think of.
