If you go to setting intial setup, you find a DTMF and inside it says long or short DTMF what does that mean or do ?

DTMF are the tones you get when you press a digit key. Used for example to select options on an automated banking system. Press 1 for balance etc.

The duration of the tone is the option given. Probably doesn't matter which you choose. I guess it must be a CDMA phone. In GSM, the tone generation is done by the exchange and not the phone.

DTMF stands for Dual Tone Multiple Frequency, basically the DTMF is the tone generated from each key when you dial a phone number. Each row and each column has it's own frequency that is generated when you push a key. The value from the column is added to the value from the row and your phone generates a specific frequency tone. Long or short DTMF is asking how long you want the tone to be audible, it is generally set to long by default.
