To begin with tried via network cable which didnt work (could do this with my previous server) and have to say I think very unfair that aol wont let it work, aol tech told me when i asked if network switch would work , that it would , I then purchased this item, and now find out have to have router also with switch. I thank all who have answered my query, and can only say when my contract is up its goodbye to aol.

this should'nt be a problem if you put the software on both Pc,s and set it up like you did the other .I don't think you can run both computers at the same through this connetion with out a router though.Good luck best I can do with the info you gave.

this is probably not AOL's problem. you should contact your hardware vendor. best way is to connect the 2 computers using a router+switch.

___

If you havent figured out what was written before, AOL's job is just to provide the connection. It doesnt matter to AOL if you want to share that connection or setup an internal network.

Once again...you will need a device which is a router+switch, not only a switch, to setup a private network in the house.

FYI - internet connection sharing is tedious to set up. the cheapest & easiest way out is to use a router to connect 2 computers.

If the on the spot modem does not have a equipped-in firewall, get one. enable as lots of the prospect-loose practices effectual homes through very actuality the on the spot modem will furnish on it, too (WEP or similar). **different idea: Belkin makes some large "Powerline Ethernet Adapters." through very actuality the computer is in all chance already plugged into an same outlet each and each and every and continuously, you're able to confirm a small hub on the brink of the internet-suitable pc and run the wiring by technique of your shops. it truly is often low priced than on the spot**

You don't need a router, the only requirement is one of the computer must be equipped with 2 network cards and the other with 1 network card.
