Nicknames exist for a number of reasons. They are often "short-for" names, but can serve other reasons. For example, Joey isn't intended to be shorter than the name Joe (although both are usually short for Joseph), but is what is called a "diminutive", which is something which means "little" Joe. Also, a person could have a nickname to differentiate him/herself from a parent with the same name, or to describe a physical characteristic (Freckles, e.g.), or because someone (or the person themselves) called them some name as a small child, before they could pronounce their real name.

Joey means baby kangaroo and has no relations to Joe. It seems that most people like calling him Joey rather than Joe. Example her name is Gigi but most people has known her as Geraldine. Gigi and Geraldine are very different. In short, they introduce their name as what they desire without telling them their real name. If my name was Mar, I would rather have them call me Mark than Mar which rhymes with Tar. Joey is much better than being called an average Joe isn't it?

Because there are a lot of things in this world that are supposed to be time savers but wind up wasting more time than if you had done it the proper way to begin with! LOL
