I have tested every known so called, download managers, that are suppose to speed of your downloads. (They do it by breaking up the downloads into packets). Plus they will also use "proxy", servers. (This method will increase the chances of a virus/spyware).

I have excellent state of the art antispyware programs an antivirus program in my system. (I am a clinical psychiatrist an I have a legal and moral obligation to protect refugee and patient data I have in my system).

My advise to you is not to install any of these so called "manager downloaders, as they all have hidden embedded trojans, spyware and malware either in their programs or in the wizard installer used to guide you through the installation.

Plus I noticed that Microsoft own installed downloader with your platform that you don't state, will at times get confused and will try and download as it is your default downloader.

You should live with the downloads as the actual problem is coming from the server that is downloading the program that you want.

I have ADSL, an at times when I get an automatic update for my antivirus system out of Beijing, China their server is over-loaded
and that is the cause of your slow download.

Some servers have timing devices that will start your download fast and then slow it down. Or even with ADSL, it may say that the server timed out and you will have to start al over again with the download.

Again it is not your system. This problem is with any server where you want to download a program. Any support person from any software company will tell you this is the problem.

Good luck,

Try to use Download Managers:

Download managers are useful for active Internet users. For dial-up users, they can automatically dial the internet service provider at night, when rates or tariffs are usually lower, download the specified files, and hang-up. They can record which links the user clicks on during the day, and queue these files for later download. For broadband users, download managers can help download very large files by resuming broken downloads, by limiting the download capacity used, so that the user's browsing is not affected much and the server is not overloaded, or by automatically browsing a site and downloading content specified by user (photo galleries, MP3 collections, etc.), including automatically downloading whole sites and regularly updating them.

this is some of the download managers that i use:
