practically speaking nowadays it's who you know is more important than what you know lately. based on my on work experience, if people who has the authority to hire you knows you, you have more chance to get hired than the one who has more experience. Accrding to them, you're already trusted, you can be trained on the job later on.

Since your social economic status is determined at birth it would correlate that it is WHO U KNOW.
Sad but true. This is the main reason that the smartest among us are NOT ALLOWED to rule.

I am not a people person, and I LOVE learning. So for me its WHAT I know that is more important. I hate networking - so Who I know really has no impact on me.

According to successful businessmen, who you know is more important, as it is an integral part of networking. You can always hire someone for what they know, but you cannot always do the same with who you know.

You cannot abdicate your knowing ( or knowledge) in favour of just knowing someone , however important that person might be. Besides , the person known to me should also know me. I know President Bush. But he does not know me at all.
What I know will always come in handy.
