Biology should be studied in about the same manner as any technical subject

1. Skim through each chapter to find out what the material is about

2. Read the material - make a note of all main ideas in your notebook.

3. Copy and define any term or word that is new to you on a 3x5 card.

4. Use your notebook to record anything the instructor adds in class.

5. After the chapter has been completed study only from your notebook and cards.

6. Study for a preplanned period 6 days out of the week.

7. You should plan on a minimum of 3 hours of study for each hour in class.

If you are not currently enrolled in this course, " sit in on," and observe classes taught by different Bio instructors. A great part of understanding material is dependent on the delivery of the teacher. Find the best instructor for you. If you are currently taking Bio, continue to follow standard study procedures., and talk with your teacher about the difficulties you are having. Get extra help from a peer tutor, your adviser or counselor can help with this---these services are available "free of charge" by most institutions. If you know of an existing study group in your class---join it. If not, ask some of your classmates if they would like to form a study group. Buy another (used) Bio book---just like instructors, some "texts" are easier to understand than others. Some districts offer "Homework Hotlines " which offer brief instruction to specific questions via telephone. Something similar must exist on the net---good luck!

There's a lot of words that make no sense. They are derived from other languages.
