No, and for that matter a dryer either! I could not imagine sending my wife to the local creak to wash the laundry in creak water. Although hanging laundry out to dry does have a better smell in the country. As for city life, there is no way I would ever hang laundry out!
No bashing here, just putting it how it was done in the "good old days".

In my country most of the people dont have washing machines and dishwashers but we have servants (which are cheaper to get them than to buy those machines) to do the houseworks. So we dont have any problem at all to live without washing machines.

We old timers know what it's like. I remember when we got our first washing machine way back when. It was the tub with the roller squeegee to drain the water out of the clothes. Before that we had a scrub board and a big silver tub and a bar of soap. Your question has brought back some fond memories! Thanks!

I AM LIVING THAT IMAGINATION. The best way to do it is to wash all of the clothes you used on the end of the day, daily, otherwise you'll be washing clothes forever on the weekends.

yes. in fact, i have lived without them. though i admit it would be easier with those machines around.
oh and pinksunsets, people do wear jeans in SE Asia. and the clothes are thinner because of the weather, not the washing machines, cause we have those here.

Ever heard of washing by hand? What the hell do you think they did up until maybe fourty or fifty years ago? F--kin' bought new clothes whenever the ones they were wearing got dirty? Imagine living in the middle of Africa...how many washing machines (or microwaves, or flat screen plasma TV's or f--king COMPUTERS) do you think there are there? Christ, our society is spoiled with creature comforts...makes me wish Y2K really did happen...

I know many people who do. They live in India. I've done my wash by hand a few times, and it's hard work. Especially wringing blue jeans out by hand. I admire people who live without them. Yet, I'm thankful someone invented the clothes washing machine.
