Chickens, uncaged, to run free, sleep at night or "roost" in a tree or up off the ground on bars. They fly up onto this place and fly down in the morning. They can fly maybe 20 feet , but not much more.

Fly:
Chicken can not fly much, but in some case from a tree to ground or from a little high place to down etc it flys/muffle.

For your question: it can not fly/muffle more than 15-20feet under no circumstance...

Chickens can fly long distances and they even have migratory patterns.

You have seen only domesticated chicken they can fly very little, but if their life is in danger then, they can get out of it in a hurry by flying away.

Grouse is a wild chicken, and there are few variety of them, like long neck, sharp tail.......
