Some CDs have a very glossy surface and others being the printable kind have a rougher surface. You just have to test the CDs out. Example is take a crayon and a piece of paper... Draw a smiley face on the paper... Now rub your finger on it and see that it doesn't smear. Now do the same on a piece of gloss photo paper... hard to write on... easy to smear... Most of the printable CDs have a fine grit to the surface that's not really visible but its there. But yes there are CDs out there that are not classified as printable but do a very fine job.
