An engine needs all the air it can get into it, in order to build a better explosion in the cylinders. You can do this in a couple of different way; one is by installing a high lift cam, or by increasing the length of the rocker arms. Duration is how long the valve stays open, lift is how far open the valve is allowed to open. A high lift cam increases performance by allowing the valves to stay open longer, thus taking in more fuel/air mixture into the combustion chamber. Lift can make the valves stay open longer, and more or less duration will control how long the mixture is allowed in, or exhausted out of the engine. When you add lift, you also decrease piston to valve clearence, and if one gets too much lift, the valve can hit the piston. One can get more lift and increase the duration, thus making the engine have much more power due to the amount of mixture injected into the engine. Porting the size of the runners, and giving the mixture a more straight shot into the chamber is the idea. Polishing the bowl area, and the combustion area, allows for a more free flowing movement of the mixture. Gasket matching the intake to heads, and headers to heads will also increase the power a lot. The main thing about the cam, is to not get the cam so high that it causes less then .060-.080 thousands piston to valve clearence. .060 is really pushing the envelope. If the heads have been ported and polished, odds are they have been milled for surface sealing issues, and this would make the clearence even less. ALWAYS check the piston to valve clearence, so you will be positive what the numbers are, BEFORE you go sticking a high lift cam into the engine. I am a pro engine builder, and have been building race engines for many years. I have a race car, and a race truck, so the best advice I can give you, is to know your numbers, and talk to the cam manufacture before you purchase a high lift cam of any brand. One needs to degree the cam in a lot of cases, or at least check to see if you are meeting the numbers in every case. I hope this has been of some help to you. Good Luck!!!

for the year you're talking approximately, the clio is greater useful. choose for the dynamique form, as its have been given a super form of equipment for a small vehicle (vehicle lighting fixtures fixtures/wipers, cd participant, alloys). i might additionally no longer difficulty with the petrols. a one million.6 is going to be difficult to locate, as no longer a super form of persons needed the it. i might flow with the only million.5dci (80bhp form). good little engine, £35 a year tax and super gasoline financial gadget. and its extremely speedy for a small vehicle. you additionally can remap them to aronud a hundred-110bhp in case you pick for with none issues. ensure the vehicle you purchase comes with an entire service history, and do an hpi examine. they do no longer seem to be as unreliable as human beings make out. any vehicle could be a lemon if the previous proprietor(s) have not regarded after it. v
