Can I really damage my LCD screen just by touching it with my finger?

You do have to be careful with them but they are not as fragile as they used to be.

So long as you don't apply excessive pressure. It will, however, leave a greasy smear on the screen and this will make the screen image more difficult to view. Don't use water or solvents to clean the screen either as they will damage it.

Oil from your skin will get on thescreen, mand that will attract dust, so it is best not to touch the screen unnecessarily. Subsequent cleaning can damage the screeen.

If you keep prodding at it it will eventually damage but you may also find that where its been consistently poked that the picture breaks up in that area - we have bought screen protectors for ours as thanks to our kids we are experiencing real problems with our screen and its only 2 years old

No, but some scratch easy - so watch your finger nails. Some are glass - most flexible plastic. Be careful cleaning it too. Especially getting those fingerprints off! LOL

Not as much as you use to be able to. The older versions were terrible to being easily damaged but now they're a little more robust.
I'd avoid prodding it just for the sake of it though ....... and your monitor!

The oils in your skin eventually turn acidic, happens quite quickly actually and eats away the protective coating of the screen.

It won't hurt it long as you don't squiz the liquid crystal out of it. But it sure look messy with all your finger prints all over screen and its annoying to look at.
