Would I be better off getting a broadband wireless card with a contract from a service provider or just getting a wireless router with a card?

Well since your using it mainly at home i would go with router and a card. In fact you may have the stuff already. Probably not though. If you have a new laptop it will MORE than likely already have a wireless card in it. If not you can buy one at almost anywhere. Bestbuy.com circuitcity.com walmart. just make sure it can fit into your laptop. every laptop brand has a different wireless card setting. some brands may want you to do it yourself. Some though are to afraid you'll break it and will want to do it for you. About the wireless router. If you have a Sony locationfree player B-20 or something like that. it already is wireless so no need for that. If not go to walmart or somewhere like that. I would recommend the wireless G right now instead of the draft N. Only because the router from some draft N companies WON'T be upgradeable. So then it will not be the best it can be. Stay with the Draft N wireless CARD though. then it lets you go about 25% faster and 50% farther with a wireless G router.
All in all stay with the router and card. Draft N Card and wireless G router. Yes they go together. Draft N cards works with all other routers. Get pros to do it or do it yourself. MAKE SURE TO PUT A PASSWORD ON YOUR ROUTER. You don't want your neighbors getting on your Internet and not paying for it. Hey its happend before.Trust me.

It depends on if you already have a broadband supplier. If you do then you could phone them and ask them if they can do you a deal on wireless broadband - many suppliers would be glad to, especially if you say if they don't you'll consider switching to one who does. As wireless routers and cards are quite expensive (£50 for the router and about £20 for the card) this would probably be your best option, as they'd probably supply it for a cut price - or even give you it for free in return for a higher monthly fee.

If you are going to get your own router I'd suggest not getting Belkin - they're pretty useless.

If you ONLY want ot use it in your house then go with a wireless router and card. If you EVER think you may want ot be able to travel with your laptop then I would go with a broadband wireless card.
