I was taught in high school that he committed suicide, but now I am finding out that may not be entirely true. Do we really know how he died?

Yeah see this is what I know already, and I very much appreciate everyone's answers. So why are they saying he was murdered? I am a history buff, and hate it when people try and say I am inacurate. My anwer is the same he died from his own hand, and thanks to all that gave me sights.

According to the "oficial" report he put a shot himself in the head. The damage was so severe that he had to be identified by the Allied doctors by dental records...

There are those that have disputed the claims, siting evidence that the records the allies were proviede with were tampered with, and some even claiming that he was one of the many Germans that fled and wound up in South America. If it is true that he didn't commit suicide, we may never know...would YOU want to be the one to say that the allies let him get away, that the US and the rest of the world was duped into believeing he was dead. There was enough trouble over the whole Mengele fiasco, imagine the backlash if Hitler was found to have gotten away as well.

Personally, I am inclined ot believe he died in Germany on April 30, 1945. NOT because I beleive the "official" version of the story, but because I don't beleive someone that well known could have, "snuck away" unnoticed. Someone would have recognized him. You couldn't go anywhere in Germany without seeing his picture everywhere so someone would have seen him, and there is avery good chance that he would ahve been caught and turned in. Besides, in the circles I traveled in, and still do to some extent, someone like that would have been known, even if only by rumor and there was nothing, silencio.

I don't know why or how I know this but I always thought he was really still alive. They still don't know if the body was his or not.
also did he really exist? Or was it a wag the dog type of scenario, example scapegoat, Bin Laden never see him in person do ya?

Despite the conspiracy theory nuts, there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to contradict the official story.
He gave Eva a cyanide pill, shot himself and his flunkies burned the corpses.
He was born in 1889, so even if he had managed to escape secretly (despite being completely surrounded by advancing Allied forces) he would now be 117 years old, or more probably have died in the 60's or 70's.

Check out the Omega File #18: "Hitler Escaped!":

http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/omegafile18.htm

The Hitler suicide was a total fabrication. He was ushered off secretly to Paraguay, South America, to live out the remainder of his years in an isolate paradise. Eye witness accounts have been documented as indicated in this Omega File #18. He died of old age, and according to one researcher was disguised as a Jesuit Priest when he made appearances in public to throw off any detectable suspicion, acting as a curator for the Vatican and Catholic Church. Incidentally, it was a Jesuit Priest, named Father Staepfle, who authored Hitler's book, "Mein Kampf" (My Plan).

We may never be certain, but it is thought that it was by suicide by gunshot and cyanide poisoning.

"Hitler, having dictated his last will and testament to secretary Traudl Junge, signed them at 04:00 on April 29. Shortly after midnight on April 30, 1945, Hitler married Eva Braun in a small civil ceremony in a map room within the bunker complex, before finally retiring to bed at around 04:00."

"Some witnesses later reported hearing a loud gunshot at around 15:30 (the Goebbels' young son is said to have declared, "A direct hit!" thinking it was a bomb overhead). After waiting a few minutes, Hitler's valet, Heinz Linge, with Bormann at his side, opened the door to the study. Linge later stated he immediately noted a scent of burned almonds in the small study, a common observation made in the presence of prussic acid, a form of cyanide. The Hitlers were both sitting on a small sofa, Eva on the left, Adolf to the right. Eva's body slumped away from Adolf's. Hitler appeared to have shot himself in the right temple (though one source claims it was his mouth) with a 7.65 mm pistol which lay at his feet. Blood was dripping from the wound to his right temple and had made a large stain on the right arm of the sofa. Eva had no visible physical wounds and Linge assumed she had poisoned herself."

"Several witnesses stated the two bodies were carried to a small, bombed-out garden outside the bunker complex, where they were doused with petrol and set alight by Linge and members of Hitler's personal SS bodyguard. The SS guards and Linge later noted the fire did not completely destroy the corpses, but Soviet shelling of the bunker compound made further cremation attempts impossible and the remains were later covered up in a shallow bomb crater."

"On April 4, 1970 a Soviet KGB team (who had been given detailed burial charts) secretly exhumed the bodies and thoroughly burned them before dumping the ashes in the Elbe river."

There is no doubt that he took his own life. Joachim Fest describes the last days in his book "Inside Hitler's Bunker" - you might like to read it.
