the property i purchased has greenbelt land to rear got up this morning to find a crew felling the trees i approched this crew an asked wot they were doing they said they were clearing the area an he said he owned the land.... can anyone tell me if he is allowed to fell the trees

If they are on your land. Hell no. If on their land, you need to check with the local ordinance officer.

Hi Jeff G, I would get my "booty" back down to the Assessor's office A.S.A.P! And contact your "agent" (or whomever) sold you this property. Sounds like you may have a pretty good "court" case. In my opinion, these "workers" were trespassing on your land. However, there might some "right-of-way" or "easement" issues at stake? Good Luck and get on top of this situation now! XOXO Moonpie

That all depends on the laws where you live. Contact your local government and ask.

Where I live, Edmonton, there are certain trees that are protected and you have to get a permit to cut them down. It could be the same for you.

You usually need a permit to do that, even if you own the land.
