Depending on how far you have been running but 8-12 weeks, it does not matter how great of a runner you are , it is mainly important to get those long runs in . If you need a good training program go to www.runnersworld.com. The have a plan called smart coach, it taylors a program to your needs according to your level of fitness. However they recommend 16 weeks of training but you can also change the week so the end date is race date...Good Luck

It depends upon what your mileage per week is and what your current long run is. The general formula is that you need two weeks of training for every mile your longest run is short of 13 miles. For instance if your longest run is 8 miles right now, you need 10 weeks of training. This is of course supposing that you want to train comfortably and run your best race. I could go out and run a 1/2 marathon or marathon at any time on very little mileage, but the race would be slow!

its reagrdles how fit you are, its all about mental stamina, when the elements are against you its the will nad determination. in real terms you need at least 3 months prep
