in many countries the standard ofl iving enjoyed by their inhabitanys has increase repidly in recent years. Sandly, not everyone in these countries is so fortune and many people in rich countries are homeless. The reason for homelessness vary, but poverty is undoubtedly one of the main cause. The homeless poeple may have become jobless and then been unable to pay their rent or mortgage and so no longer have a roof over their head .Often, the fact that unemployed get benefit from the goverment prevents this from happening, but not always.

The US is the only industrialized nation that has a major problemn with homelessness. That is because we do not have the social safe guards to prevent it. We are the only industrialized nation that does not have Universal healthcare. A vast majority of the homeless are there because of physical or mental infirmities. The really sad thing is that many of these people are veterans, our war heros!

In a country as rich is this one no one should go without three things and that if food, shelter, and health care. Most homelessness is caused by a lack of vocational education. When we come off of the fact that all people cannot be rocket science and there is a need for cab drivers and sanitation workers, restaurant workers, ect. We need a system of training to lift the bottom and diminish poverty, and yes the rich should pay for it. It is not a punishment to give back to those that need a lift up. It is the right thing to do.

My heart goe's out for especially for the homeless children
and I admit a lot of homless people can't do any better for them selves, for different reasons some are drunks, retarded, doppers, some are released from prison assylums etc, some are just plain lazy and won't work, have you ever stopped and asked some of these people who have signs reading "will work for food"? I have several times and not once have I had one who would take a job or work, there aer several organizations who will help the homeless but not nearly enough, why can't the gov build cheap housing and have farms shops etc, where these people could live and work and have help managing their affairs as some are not capable of doing this, the ones on the farms could support the others with food and also the welfare recipients, there fore lowering the cost for welfare, the shops etc could be training some of these people to work in the market place, etc and to maintain the housing and equipment etc for the others and also learn a trade, the blacks have such a system in south georgia and it works real well, running a country is like running any business and should be treated as such, of course you would need to get rid of the A,C.L.U. AND THE U,S, SUPREME COURT Ronald Reagan had such a plan in Ca, when he was gov, of Ca, but the supreme court shut him down the A.C.L.U. argued it was unconstitutionl to make people work for their money, STUPID ME I WORKED ALL OF MY LIFE, there are many things our country could do , if they would.

There will always be the rich and the poor. All over the world money speaks louder than words. If you have money you have power. Unfortunately the gap between rich and poor is widening and I cant see it getting any better because of the greed before need principle is applied. I live in Australia and am shocked that some of our people are living in tents, we are not a third world country. Whilst USA spends billions on rockets to the moon, people are dying in their own country. Greed is dreadful.

Well read the posts people. Only one person on this question was actually homeless and you know who took care of her? Her church. Do you know what that is called? Community. You liberal lemmings don't get it yet, do you? When you tear down everything that is American, In God we trust, churches, community, the nuclear family, do you know what you are left with, ripped up communities where everyone wants to do what feels good and nobody has any responsibility. Then when people wake up from their drug induced haze of a shallow life, they realize they have no friends, they have no church, they have no community, and they have no job. Now they have screwed up their life and they are on the streets. Then they turn to "big brother" they used to hate so much and beg for a handout. Ridiculous. I have a phrase for you liberals out there. Personal responsibility. Learn it and we can eradicate these problems.

Mostly from mental disorders.
Why don't they draw welfare? That's interesting.
There are jobs available now for every homeless person in the country. Plus jobs for several million illegals.
Has anyone ever asked the homeless why they want to be homeless?
They chose the lifestyle. It is freedom.
For some reason, the News Media never asks them why they want to be homeless.

In rare cases some wish to be homeles, however in a country with the wealth and resources as the USA has there is no reason for anyone to be homeless. I would much rather see my tax dollars being spent on housing, clothing , feeding and educating America, then on pork or foregion aid, or on a study of methaine in cattle!

yep, i thought for a while that they must have deserved it, been alcoholics or drug addicts or whatever, but it is a growing problem even in a 1st world country like where i live in Australia. its very sad, the governments can afford it, they need to house these people, give them work, teach them skills, share around the wealth a bit better. the gap between the rich and the poor just contiues to grow. you'll never see a homeless politition...@ssholes

Unfortunate, yes. But it is very rare that people are homeless through no fault of their own. (At least here in the US that is true.) This occasionally does happen, yes, I know. The children who are homeless are not to blame for their lot in life.

However, I want to know what happened to helping our neighbors? I have been unemployed at times in my adult life and was unable to get any kind of government aid because I'm white with no children. Luckily, I attend church regularly and the people in my "church family" were more than happy to help me through my rough time. Since finding work, I have helped others in similar situations like mine.

However, I was never too proud to ASK for help before I ended up on the streets.
