Is Major League Baseball is killing their fan base by putting the playoffs and World Series on so late at night? I feel sorry for the poor kids who are baseball fans who can't stay up past their bedtimes and see their teams play. What's the alternative and why is prime time the best time?

Definitely not the best - but that just shows that TV really runs baseball. If they're going to start the games in prime time, the least they could do would be to start them an hour earlier so kids could see the end of the game before going to bed. All weekend games should be played in the afternoon. This year's Series was a joke - it was cold at night with temps in the 40's and wind chills in the 30's. I'm surprised we didn't see more shattered bats and injuries from people getting hit with flying pieces.

I think over the whole season there are plenty of games on in the afternoon. I know what you are saying, and MLB is on record as favouring at least 1 world series game on in the afternoon, it just has to convince network television to agree to it, because prime time gets the best ratings. And while it hurts the kids, you really don't want to hurt people who work all day, and who make up most of your tv audience.

Prime time = more viewers, more revenue, and most of baseballs market.

Most of the games should be on in prime time, but air one or two in the afternoon for the kids and families.

As someone said, it is about the money. It does seem like the games start pretty late. If they would get rid of some of the b.s before the game (analysts, blah-blah-blah), even 1/2 hr or 45 mins earlier would help. Of course, I remember getting out of class in grade school and high school to watch day games.

Thank goodness the Series win came on a Friday night--those kids can stay up late.

i'm 21, and i have a hard time staying up to watch the end of games sometimes, so its not just "the children" who are suffering. hopefully in a few years they will push the start time forward because the post season hasnt really been quite the ratings force that it has been in the past. (and i dont think the alleged "quality" of the teams playing has anything to do with it) mlb has just done an outstanding job of alienating its fans and we are starting to see the results of that effort.

Absolutely not!
I remember when I was a kid at least 3 or 4 games were scheduled for the afternoon. I could rush home and catch the end of the game. It was great back then.
Then MLB realized theres money to be made by broadcasting the games in primetime. Its all about Money and nothing else.

Prime Time will always get the most viewers. Most people work during the day and can't see the games. I can understand afternoon games on the weekends, though.

It's all about the money. Prime time brings the biggest audience and that spells big bucks from the company's from their ads.
