most docs recommend that you wait till your first checkup which is usually at 6 weeks.but with my second child me and my husband only waited 2 weeks because i felt up to it.really you should wait till your wife feels comfortable enough to do it.and dont pressure her.she just had something the size of a watermelon come out of there, she might not be ready to have something go back in!

Depending on the birth, if she had a C-section it should be whatever advised by the doctor to make sure the internal stitches don't bust, but if a non-complicated birth normally when she stops bleeding, which can be anywhere from 3-6 weeks, If she tore or had an episiotomy (cut to the perineum, meaning the area between vagina and anus) as long as the stitches have healed which normally take about 2.5-3 weeks, salt baths help to heal stitches quicker with better chance of no infection.
Enjoy the birth of your child, and your wife will heal in her own time this is just on average.

You are not supposed to have sex for 6 weeks after delivering a child. This gives the mother time to heal and her menstrual cycle could still be going on as well.

A women can bleed for 5 weeks after giving birth. Plus she may be exhausted from te birth itself and by having to look after the new baby. Just be patient it is your wifes and babies needs that come first at this time. When she is ready she'll let you know. Otherwise you could always masterbate.

Ask the doctor. Anyway, shouldn't it be up to your wife and not you when she wants to have sex again anyway? She's gonna be a bit sore down there for awhile and may bleed for several weeks.
