That is actually not a very easy question, because it itself IS safe, and I've used it 100 + times to purchase things, and many many people agree. They only people with problems ran into them, not because of paypal, but the place in which they purchased things, which either had a non secure network, or anything like that. But paypal is safe yes, but the occurance of bad things happening are slim, but can happen, if you are really careful as to where you buy things, you should be okay, like millions are today. good luck ^_-

I have had problems with it, but it seems safe as long as things are running smoothly. Let me explain.

When I had a second paypal account which I wanted to close out, and get my money out of it, it took about a month of phone calls and emails and faxes (all three!) to paypal. Then, they charged me money to get my money out. It was insane.

But as far as normal day to day auction payment, it seems safe. Just beware of paypal clones in your email. A favorite scam is to tell you that unless you give your social security and credit card number to paypal, your account is about to be closed. Paypal never does this. This is a clone trying to get private info from you. Be watchful of these kinds of things, if you get into paypal.

Good luck

I don't trust them. Use Paypal for small amounts of money (<£100) but use other methods for other payments.

When buying or selling on Ebay for larger amounts meet the buyer/seller face to face and pay/receive CASH. Its the only way to be safe with those sharks.

Well.... paypal claim that they are safe although i recently got an email from 'paypal' asking for money. now i im definate that this wasnt the real paypal although theese hackers almost tricked me. In other words always check you are paying the real paypal and not the scammer version of it. SO BEWARE!!

It is safe as long as you keep your security up to date. Also use a password which nobody would be able to use to get in to your account.
If you do use it , sometimes you may get what looks like a real email from Paypal, do not click on the link given as they are always fake.

Yes. You should be alert and follow the rules correctly. PayPal is one of the most popular online money transfer systems widely used for online auctions, pay to surf programs, e-books and purchase of low value goods. It is now a part of the online auction website eBay. More details available at

No!

MY pal has just sold 2 phones for £420 which was paid on Paypal by a stolen credit card, Paypal have done NOTHING to help him recover the stock or the money.

He's been onto the Police and hopefully something may come from it because he noted various information including the I.P. address of the pc from where it was ordered.

Paypal are just not interested so what's the point in using them?

For small amounts, PayPal is probably as good as any of them. It does seem to be hard to talk to a real person if something goes wrong -- which is rare. For larger amounts, a regular bank transfer may be safer and easier to get help with if something goes wrong.

Have you considered other money transfer services?

I've had a couple of problems with spoof emails, and haven't found paypal's responses adequate. Altho I've used them plenty of times with no problem I must say that I'm not 100% positive about its security,
