When you get any messages that ask you for your bank account number and or other important personal information, you know it is a scam. You can always check them out at websites such as

scopes.com
urbanlegends.com

or the like. Don't be fooled by them. Be very wary, because they can steal all your money, not just the $500.

Do not e-mail them back. That will only tell you that they got to you and you will never get rid of their spam. You can report that spam to your e-mail provider. Better yet, get a spam filter to get rid of it before you even see it.

Beware, it has all the description of an Internet Scam.

Never believe in anyone from the Internet or e-mail telling you that you have won money especially if you do not remember entering it and they ask for your money before they "send you your prize".

It sound like you've got a phishing email don't reply to it unless you're very sure its straight first thing to think of have you entered the lottery if not you've got your answer right away if you have be careful it's not advisable to send bank detail over the net you don't know where they're going and you could find your bank account emptied.

YES, it IS a SCAM !
You will notice that their little story tells you to "keep it confidential until you have parted with your bank account details" and notice too that the return addresses are always in AFRICA. Why would that be so for lotteries/ competitions in other countries.
Give it a miss pal.

Don't do anything - just delete that message. The only time you stand to win anything in a lotto is if you buy a ticket. This is a scam, and if you go through with it, you will lose all your money.

Please ignore this it is a scam, whenever they ask for money don't ever send, if you had really won they would just send a prize, which they didn't. Don't give them you bank account number, never give out your personnal details. If you recieve more of these throw them in the bin.
