I think that it depends on the person - not on the race.. we fear that which we do not understand or want to understand so that cannot be based on race.. It is based on ones' life - what they have or have not been educated about or exposed to - how they were brought up, etc -

I don't think that black people are any more homophobic than whites. I know lots of black people who are gay and are out within their families and neighborhood. I do think that some black people tend to not come out at work or other situations where they have to worry about discrimination. It's not homophobia or self hatred so much as an ingrained caution. They grew up with the feeling that they'd have to be twice as good to be thought equal. Now things are changing but they're not about to take a chance on losing out on opportunities the same way their parents and grandparents did if they don't have to.

Well thats an interestig Question. You see me personally as a black man, feel more threatened by a Black homosexual, cause l feel like he'll be more likely to try something. And history has proven me right, lve had 2 gays come on to me in the past year, far too much for my tastes. But take it from a Black man who has plenty of friends in both races, it really is hard to say, but the dominant culture of young Black and White males predisposes them to redicule gays very much. I wouldn't even say it's homophobia so much as it's trying to look cool or masculine by rebuking a gay so as not to look gay yourself. But lm leanin towards Black guys as the answer to your Q

tigertiger, surely the fact that there's so many downlow black people who can't be themselves, shows that the black community *does* suffer from a lot of homophobic? I can't think of a single black and openly gay celebrity either, although there's people like Oprah Winfrey, Da Brat and P Diddy who raise suspicion.

I live in Vancouver; we don't have many black people here. So are they in your opinion homophobic?

I think we are. A lot of black men are actually in denial, and not just in the closet as mentioned earlier!
