Yes, a lot of people can speak English here. I am an Indian too. You will have no communication problems as long as you don't go to a village or a slum where the people are cannot speak English. You can even manage a travel agent and a guide to help you out. You can buy a dictionary and learn some common words. HAPPY JOURNEY, friend!!!

India is very well educated as far as linguistics are concerned. India was one of many nations that used to belong to the British Empire and slowly got it's independence. It's now part of the British Common Wealth and the population also speaks English.
You will have no problem at all. Take Care & Enjoy India.

Stick with the Metro's (big cities: Delhi,Mumbai,Bangalore,Chennai) and also Goa!
Most people in these places speak english...some people may find it hard to understand your accent so with those people you could reduce on the syllables(and just say the key words).
If you have an Indian friend or some local, that would be a definite +.
Most of these places are safe, since there are alot of poor people in india, its not advisable to flaunt your wealth.
There are a lot of tourist companies in india, you could hookup with them.

Even thou am not from India, I am sure you can live with only a few people acknowledging your presence as strange. Majority of the people speak English so I do not see what the problem is there. I have a buddy who went to Germany and she could not speak German but she had a fabulous holiday

There should not be a problem generally.
Offially, you will certainly comfortable. And as far as travel is concerned, if you own a vehicle, no issues. If you are travelling by Cabs, no problems. If you are travelling by public transport system, you may need to take help of co-passengers.
If you have your food in hotels .. no problem. If you want to cook yourself and want to buy in local markets, you better should know the local language. But, there are some good shopping areas where vegetables are packed and sold and the guys can talk in english.
Generally, you can manage. We see hundreds of Americans here working in call centers.
If you are coming to Bangalore, you may contact me :-)
All the best
Regards
Ramesh

India has plenty of disorders, however it has plenty of skills too. It has most effective been unbiased for a couple of years in assessment with many different international powers. It is notable that India is rising onto the sector degree with all of its disorders. It is specially well at increasing with "smooth" vigour. Give it time and I consider you are going to be amazed. At this factor Pakistan or Afghanistan are extra in threat of fitting failed states than India.
