What are the chances of getting through a labor and delivery without an epidural or the gas and without the use of forceps and plungers? I'm talking giving birth as naturally as possible, no drugs, no surgery, just labor and delivery!

You can go through it without epi or gas, and that's your decision to make. You might reconsider when you're in actual labor though.

As for surgery/plungers/forceps, it really comes down to the doctor's call. If the baby seems to be in danger, then that's what it'll come down to. Although they'll avoid it at any cost.

Its a good chance as long as all is fine healthwise with yourself and baby eg: blood pressure is fine , baby is in the correct position, it also depends on the length of your labour. The best thing is to have a great support partner who understands your needs! And it depends on an individuals pain threshold. Concentrated breathing really helps
I had a drug free labour not strictly by choice, it just happened that way!MOST IMPORTANLY have an open mind and dont put any expectations on your labour its an individual experience and do whatever you feel necessary to ease the pain its a big job bringing a little one into the world so no matter what you do you have accomplished a wonderful thing at the end of the birth. Lots of good luck to you oh and rest rest in those last few wks to labour!!!

Its all really up to your baby, but I have had 2 completely natural labours and births, I am a big girl when it comes to pain, if I kick my toe I winge for ages, but when it comes to labour and birth its a completely differant story, I was determind to have a water birth with my son and to do that I wasn't allowed pethidine or epidural, I tried the gas for about 2 sux at the start of my labour but it made me sick, So the only pain relief I used was the warm 37 degrees water bath.

I recommend a water birth to anyone who wants a natural bith with no drugs, it was wonderful, You don't sit in the bath your entire labour, as they change the water regulary so when they do that you can walk around and try differant things to make yourself as comfortable as possible. I was able to sleep during contractions in the bath as I felt weightless, I was in a spa so it was the shape of a triangle which was perfect, I could change positions whenever I needed so I could have my back rubed and also it was easy to push as I used the side of the bath as a foot leaver. It also helped with the tearing as my skin was really soft from been in the water.

With my second bith it very quick, so even though I asked for pethidine I was unable to get it in time. The shower was my relief warm water on my back and belly.

Good luck with your labour and delivery, Water is an amazing relief. and has been used before women started having babys in hospitals.

Well I for one went through my entire labor with out anything at all. It can be done. It was hard and yes it hurt but when it was all over with I didn't feel a thing I was able to talk around without a problem. My daughter was alert. I know that if I were to have another child I would have another natural birth.

There are no longer any long term outcomes from an epidural. you will experience soreness from the beginning, yet in basic terms for a little while. Forceps are an emergency technique and is genuinely no longer used except genuinely mandatory.

only very brave women have no pain relief!!!
I'm pregnant with baby number 5 and hope to have another home birth ( had 2 already)
BUT i will still be having gas and air to help me push the head out
every women is different but i don't see why any lady should suffer the pain of child birth if she doesn't have to,
i think it all depends how you feel once you are in labour yourself till then its hard to say what relief you will want if any

I had my 3rd baby with no paid relief, it wasn't a problem, its gonna hurt whatever you choose, having a needle stuck in my spine didn't appeal at all, Pethadine made me delerious, I thought there was a budgie in the room, it was a machine bleeping, and gas and air is ok but doesn't really help much, just gives you something to bite down on!!

Go natural, there's nothing to it lol.

I think your nuts to let your body go through all that pain. Forceps I believe you need to be careful because if the doc presses to hard he could cause brain damage, such as cyerbalpalsy I know this is spelt wrong sorry

I don't know the odds but it's really not that unusual for women who are determined to give birth naturally. When I had mine, the only thing that was done was an episiotomy because the baby's heart rate slowed. I know several other women who had theirs totally naturally.

The chances are pretty good, make sure you have a birth plan, and everyone understands this is what you want. I was lucky in that it was my plan to go natural first pregnancy and it didn't happen until the second pregnancy; and definately something I would recommend to everyone
