The couple that wrote the book "Open Marriage" 25 years ago, George and Nena O'Neil, divorced a few years after publishing it. The have also stated in interviews that couples they counseled about open marriages did not stay together in the long run.

It's amazing to me how popular culture comes around again every 20-25 years or so.

. I was married for 10 years when my husband proposed the idea of an open marriage. Ok he didn't propose the idea, he said that either we swing or he was gonna cheat. Well stupid me I so used to being controlled and mentally abused by this freak that I went along with it. We have 2 kids together and He has taken care of me since I was 18, so you can imagine how I felt. I thought that I loved him, but now I see that we were only together because of our kids. After 2 years of the swinging lifestyle we are now separated, My regular swinging partner and I ended up falling in love, and we are now living together. Its hard enough to make a marriage work, why would you want to start something that will cause problems in your marriage. There is so much DRAMA in the swinging lifestyle, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

No, they may at first but in the end they never do. One person wants to stop and the other doesn't...it is rarely timed well for both to be done with it.

I have a question based on yours, if someone wanted to get married and devote themselves, why did they want to have an open marriage instead of just being single and avoiding marriage all together?

Nope. Women are hard-wired for emotional intimacy and a long-termcommitment; they desire stable relationship with a partner who can provide for them and for the children they will have together. Men are NOT hard-wired to provide for children that may not be theirs, so most men are not open to "sharing" their wives sexually with other men.

If both husband and wife are really hot. Otherwise the other gets jealous because they're not getting as much action as their partner.

Open un-married relationships do, so I don't see why not! Just be safe, and always keep each other first.
