I was building a model airplane with super glue when I accidentally knocked the open bottle of glue onto the carpet. I quickly dumped water on the carpet and rubbed it with a towel. I got some glue off, but 3 hard spots remain. I tried using a carpet vacuum cleaner, but obviously it didn't work. Is there a possible way to remove the glue without destroying the carpet? Is there a cleaning product out there that I can use to dissolve and remove the super glue? Any help is appreciated. I need to get rid of this fast before my parents notice...

I have should have said this originally, but I cut it off because it's too deep into the carpet. Plus, I don't want to make a huge hole, which is even more noticeable than hard carpet. I was hoping of a recommendation of a good cleaning solvent. I'm leaning towards acetone right now, but it might stain the carpet. I want to know if there are other alternatives.

Acetone, like in nail polish remover, will take out Superglue and should not damage the carpet. Soak a cotton ball in the remover and wrap it around a small bit of the pile. In a moment or so it will begin to dissolve the glue and you can pick of the hard bits. After you get all the glue out, use a bit of carpet cleaner to remove the last of the acetone, as it's flammable. If you routinely use Superglue it is worth it to keep a cheap brand of acetone nail polish remover around in case you happen to glue your fingers together or to something else. You can use the same method with the cotton ball to separate the fingers and item. Also, in case there are future drips, it will be handy by for clean up.
I'm a mom of 6, 3 boys who love models- and a nurse- so I have lots of experience with Superglue and getting it out/off. This is what we use.

Yes, acetone. There is a super glue remover, available at the hardware store. I have never purchased any nor have I looked at it. I think it may be acetone but I don't know for sure. Anyway whichever you decide to try just try some on the carpet where it won't be noticable like the closet or close to the edge of the room. Since I don't know what kind of carpet I can only suggest. Try to keep it off the other areas and don't let it soak into the pad. If possible put a saucer or something that way you can pour it on because the more you can use the easier it will be to remove the glue. Also try to use popsicle sticks, or something other than like a paper towel to help remove it because the paper will just shred and make a mess. An old cloth towel or even sock would be okay. If you can saturate the hard pieces you should get it off. But if you aren't having any luck tell your Mom before you make it worse. Just one last thought could you cut into the hard part? Not cut off the carpet but cut into it. Good luck!
