I was rooting for the Cards the entire World Series...and I especially favor the NL over the AL as I'm not a fan of the DH rule. People considered the Cards underdogs because they won only 83 games during the regular season, which is the lowest number of regular season wins by any World Series Winning Team. Also, I believe they won their division by only 1 1/2 games (over the Astros) and so they were seen as barely clinching a playoff spot.
Well, I knew they had a legitimate shot...their club has had a lot pf playoff expereince and their are some real veterans on the team. Good for them...Congrats to the Cards!

They finished the regular season 6-16 in the last 22 games. They only had an overall record of 83-80 going in. The odds makers always go with the team that has the better record. As the Cards proved that doesn't always mean the best team. Go cards.

Well... since they beat the yankees 3-1 in their series and oakland 4-0 and the card just beat the mets they were underdogs

The way I understood it, we were considered underdogs because we didn't win that many games over the season. But duh, that was because we had a lot of player injuries. Now we had everyone back - and healthy; and as a result we kicked @ss.
Short memories everyone had as to WHY our stats weren't up to par. Interviews with Cardinals players were that they knew they were being called the 'underdogs' but in the clubhouse in private all of the team knew how strong they were and let people think whatever...they knew.

They (the odds makers) expected more bettors to wage on Detroit so they were made underdogs (the Cardinals) in an attempt to level the betting off.

Someone explain this though, if Kenny Rogers had pitched the last two games, the story might be different, if you look at Cards record they are the underdogs they didnt have the best season but good for them that they won but they wont make it next year.
Go YANKEES

(to the yankees fair weather fan. rodgers wasnt/isnt capable of pitching the last two games.) The Cards deserved to win, they have a great baseball team. Chris Carpenter is the best pitcher in the game today.

judging by the regular season records and by earlier postseason performance u could say they were underdogs
the tigers appeared to have better pitching and a better 1-8 lineup
they also had much rest
and people think that the NL is watered down compared to the AL
judging by interleauge play
but the hitters and pitchers amazingly put their act together and killled the tigers

they were underdogs because of their barely .500 season record, however, that record was because of a lot of players being injured over the coarse of the season. they are all healthy now, and it showed
